Obituary of Reverend Gordon Logan Blackwell

The death of Reverend Gordon Logan Blackwell, husband of the late Hazel Blackwell, occurred on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at The Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Gordon was born in Chatham, Ontario on May 28, 1929 a son of the late Randolph and Jennie (McLarty) Blackwell. In 1955, he was, upon graduation from Knox College, appointed to the pastoral Charge of Rosetown and Biggar, Saskatchewan. He was re-appointed to the Pastoral Charge of Saint Columba, Lancaster, Saint Paul’s, Hampton, Barnesville and Chalmer’s Sussex. This gave him a Pastoral Charge to travel in his 38 Chev that extended from Lancaster to Wickham, to Ward’s Creek, the other side of Sussex and to Upham. He conducted his first service of Worship in Saint Columba Presbyterian Church on October 2, 1955. His Ministry spanned from 1955 to 1998, 43 years. He worked side-by-side with his wife Hazel in many aspects of Ministry. The two were deeply devoted to one another. His experience in teaching helped him spread the good news of our Lord. He and Hazel loved camping and would take their trailer back to Ontario for regular summer vacations. Most recently they had a seasonal lot at Lakeside Campground. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425), with visitation on Monday, July 10 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A graveside service will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery on Tuesday, July 11 at 11:00 am. Donations in Gordon’s memory can be made to Saint Columba Presbyterian Church or a charity of the Donor’s Choice.
