Obituary of Brian Wilfred Lane

It is with great sadness that the family of Brian Wilfred Lane, husband of C. Nadine (Stilwell) Lane, announce his unexpected passing on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 69. Born on April 15, 1948 in Mortlake, London, England, he was the son of the late Arthur Wilfred and Winifred Nora Louise (Harris) Lane. Brian immigrated to Canada in 1974 to work on the Irving Oil Refinery expansion with Foster Wheeler. He met the love of his life, Nadine, in 1975 and they were married in 1976. It was later that same year that he would begin a 40-year career as a draftsman working at Ocean Steel. Brian was a member of the Saint John Y Service Club (formerly Saint John Y’s Men’s Club), having served as their President from 1984-1985. He was also a former member of the Seaside Lawn Bowling Club, representing New Brunswick at numerous National and Atlantic championships. Brian’s biggest passion was cooking – he was happiest when looking after a chicken BBQ or flipping hamburgers and hot dogs at countless events throughout the community. Besides his wife of 41 years, he is survived by his sons, Christopher of Saint John NB and Jonathan (Sarah Sullivan) of Charlottetown PEI; two sisters, Valerie (the late Henry) Colbourne of West Sussex UK and Avril (John) Bradford of Spain; two sisters-in-law, Gaynor Lane of Reading UK and Silvia Lane of Woodcote UK; two nieces, Kim (Richard) Lane-Brashares and Charlotte (Neil) Sampson; three nephews, Paul Colbourne of West Sussex UK, Andrew (Candice) Colbourne of Perth Australia, and Jeremy (Joanna) of Huntington NY; several great nieces and great nephews; and his furry friend, Ewie, who he was seen walking along Manawagonish Road three to four times a day. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brothers, Mervyn and Trevor, and sister, Meryl. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, NB (634-7425) with visiting on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 6-8 pm and Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Celebration of Brian’s life will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11:00 am from Brenan’s Bay View Chapel. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Hillcrest United Baptist Church – Soul Food Ministry, Outflow Ministry or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
