Obituary of Clarence Scovil Green

The family of Clarence Scovil (Sonny) Green, loving husband of over 67 years to Doris (Keating) Green, is heartbroken to announce his passing, which occurred on Friday, September 1, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Sonny was born in Saint John, NB on October22, 1928 to the late Clarence A. Green and Patricia (Matson)(Green) MacDonald. Sonny lived in Grand Bay for most of his adult life. He served his community well, in church, government and schools for over 50 years. He was a major participant in the creation of the Village of Pamdenac , serving as its last mayor, and was instrumental in its amalgamation with Grand Bay , serving as both mayor and Councilor of the new village of Grand Bay in the 1970's. In recognition of his endless dedication to his community, he was honoured in 1992 with the NB Recognition Award. In later years, he became very active as a volunteer with the West Side Food Bank, serving as its President for a number of years. Being a well-known flooring installer, Sonny worked for many flooring retailers, he also owned and operated his own flooring business for many years. Sonny and Doris spent over 20 years wintering in Largo, Florida where they developed many lasting friendships. They were also former members of The Ties and Frills square dance group and the Grand Bay Folk Group. Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his children: Jacqueline (Brian) Ganong, Laura (Rick) Wheaton and Gil Lindsay, his grandchildren: Scott (Lindsay) Wheaton, Sarah (Jamie) Shea, Kim (Scott) Seaward, Jennifer (Darin) Burns, Michelle (Mike) Godbout and Jill Ganong (Jamie Fowler), great grandchildren: Andrew, Matthew, Brooklyn, Lauryn, Brayden, Billy, Dayna, Grace, Lilly, Emma, Charlotte, Molly and Lane, his brothers: Peter, Dennis and Tim MacDonald, brothers-in-law: Andrew (Marg) Keating, Jack (Thelma) Keating, Allan Keating, Ron (Dawn) Keating, Ron Conley (the Late Bernice), and sisters-in-law: Gloria Collings and Lorraine (Bill) Taylor and special cousin, Jim Green along with countless nieces, nephews and members of his extended family. Besides his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his daughter Anita Lindsay, and siblings: Phyllis Hatcher, Gordon Green, Sandy and Ken MacDonald. Arrangements are entrusted to Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, where visitation will take place on Sunday, September 3 from 2-4 and 6-8. A Memorial Service will take place on Monday, September 4 at 11 AM from the Church of the Resurrection, 20 MacDonald Ave, Grand Bay-Westfield. The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care Sonny received at Tucker Hall, Shannex Saint John, while a resident there. Special thanks to our angel, Cindy. We also express appreciation to the staff of 3CS, the Recovery Room and Palliative Care at SJRH.
