Obituary of Vernon Frederick Larson
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Vernon Larson announces his passing, which occurred peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. Born in Saint John on October 5, 1921, he was a son of the late Oscar and Mae (Ladds) Larson.
Vernon was a quiet, kind man. He was a lifelong resident of Saint John, and a proud "north-ender". Vernon enjoyed baseball in his younger years. He had a passion for skating and was at the Lancaster Arena at every opportunity.
Vernon served overseas with the Canadian Army during WWII. He was placed in the Signal Corps, where he put his electrical and mathematical skills to work. He was among those who remained in Holland for a period of time to assist with the post-war efforts.
After returning to Canada, Vernon was employed by Canada Post. He worked for many years on the counter in Fairville and made many friends.
Vernon will be missed by his siblings: William Larson (the late Marion) of Toronto, Greta Scott (the late Bruce) of Saint John; nephews Bill Larson (Joanne) of Kelowna BC, Doug Scott (Paula) of Quispamsis; niece Nancy Scott of Saint John; great nieces and nephew Kristen, Mitchel and Ally.
Vernon’s family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing for the excellent care provided in a warm and understanding environment. Thank you.
Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, NB (634-7425) with visiting on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 6-8 pm.
