Obituary of William Blake Booth

The family of William Blake Booth announces his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, June 17, 2018. Born May 28, l935 in Saint John, NB, he was the only son of May (Short) and Blake Booth. Bill is survived by his wife, Avis (Lewis); children, Thomas (Carolyn McFadyen) and Stephanie (Christopher Hauta); grandchildren, Andrew and Ryan Booth and Caragh Hauta; brothers-in-law, George and Frank (Dorothy) Connor, Edward (Linda) Lewis; sister-in-law, Kathleen McCombe; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his first wife, Anne Marie (Connor). Bill grew up in the city, but he was a country boy at heart. Any time spent with his grandsons, Andrew and Ryan, was especially important to him. He enjoyed spending many happy hours hunting and fishing "with the boys" both young and old at Henderson Settlement, which he considered his second home. Bill attended St. Mary and St. Bartholomew’s Church, and later, St. Jude’s, serving on vestries, working at church suppers, various fund raisers etc. You could always count on him to be "on board". He coached Little League Baseball, and served in various roles with the Forest Hills Boy Scouts: Cub Master, Scout Leader and Venturer Advisor, along with being the treasurer of the Group Committee. Bill attended the Saint John Vocational School and became proficient in many industrial fields. He retired as a Maintenance Supervisor from the Irving Oil Refinery after 32 years of service in 1992. In his words, "I went for the winter in January of 1960." He started his career in Operations and after the first year transferred to Maintenance. Bill earned his Journeyman’s status as Millwright, Industrial Mechanic and Pipefitter. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, West Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 6-8 PM and Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Bay View Chapel on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM. A private interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Remembrances in Bill’s memory may be made to the Saint John Vocational School/Harbour View Scholarship Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
