Obituary of Frederick Brian DeWitt

With heavy hearts, the family of Frederick Brian DeWitt announces his peaceful passing on July 9, 2018 at Bobby's Hospice, after a battle with cancer. Born September 10, 1946 in McAdam, NB, he was the only son of the late Frederick and Pauline (Cochrane) DeWitt. Fred was predeceased by his loving wife, Audrey (Ellison) DeWitt. He is survived by his daughters, Wendy DeWitt and Jill McKim (Ryan); grandchildren, Kaitlyn DeWitt and Claire, George and Elizabeth McKim; sister, Pauline Branston (the late Don) and twin sister Patricia Gougeon (Andy); sister-in-law, Nancy Wilcox (Richard); and several nieces and nephews. Fred was a long-time community volunteer, dedicating countless hours to a variety of groups. He was a member of the Men’s Club at the Church of the Good Shepherd, where he cooked meals for various groups. He volunteered at the St. Rose School Breakfast Program for 11 years, and enjoyed going for coffee afterwards with "The Guys". Fred also served as co-chair of the Neighbourhood Police Council. In June 2018, he was made an honourary member of the Saint John Police Museum Inc. for his outstanding support. Fred worked for CP Rail for 30 years, and then Comprop Inc. for 20 years. Fred was a devoted father who would do anything for his girls. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and they enjoyed his fun-loving nature and silly jokes. Fred was a loving husband to Audrey for 44 years, and he has missed her every day since her passing in 2015. We would like to extend special thanks to all the caregivers who did their best to keep our father comfortable during his final days. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Rd., Saint John, NB (634-7425) with visiting on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 11:00 am from Church of the Good Shepherd, 668 Manawagonish Rd. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to The Church of the Good Shepherd or Bobby's Hospice. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
