Obituary of Richard Frederick Pye

It is with deep sadness, and gratitude for a lifetime of memories, that the family of Rick Pye, loving husband to Beverly Pye, announces his passing, which occurred on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital as a result of raising hell for more than six decades and being stubborn & refusing doctor’s orders. Born in Saint John on October 24, 1953, he was a son of Irene (LeClair) and the late Arthur Pye. Rick will be missed by his beloved wife, Beverly (Olsen) Pye of 42 years; his daughters, who were his princesses, Sarah Mazerolle "Princess Nairobi" (Jake) and Jessica Brewer "Mooky Moon" (Cory); his precious grandchildren that he adored, Lilli, Luke, Colton, Evan and Miley who will always fondly remember their "Popo"; his siblings, Sandy Russell (Glen), Jimmy Pye and Jackie Cawley (Jeff); several nieces and nephews; "Dad’s old dog", Emmett; as well as many good friends whom he loved dearly – you know who you are. In addition to his father, Rick was predeceased by his special baby grandson, Joseph; and a baby nephew, Nicholas. Rick and Bev were teenaged sweethearts and fell in love when he was 18 and she was 15. Since that time, they have been inseparable. They shared the kind of love that fairy tales speak of, and everyone aspires to have – they belonged together – "Louise and Ricky Rockafeller". As time passed, they created a beautiful family that Rick cherished. His daughters and grandchildren were the lights of his life. Rick was a vibrant, funny, and considerate man – one of the good ones. He was a jokester, a fist bumper, an excellent cook (who made the best stews and cabbage rolls) and was a red seal carpenter who could build anything out of wood. He loved the great outdoors, and liked to hunt, to pick dulse, berries, and pretty much anything with his family. Rick was lucky to find a career that he enjoyed and worked for many years for the City of Saint John Works Department where he made lifelong friends. At work, he was known as "Cobra" and was a proud union brother of CUPE Local 18. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, NB (634-7425). Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 12-2 pm, and a private Celebration of Rick’s Life for family and close friends will follow at 2:00 pm in Brenan’s Bay View Chapel. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
