Obituary of Edna Marie Burke

It is with much sadness that the family of Edna Marie Burke, loving wife to George Burke announce her passing, which occurred on Monday, October 22 in her home, with her family by her side after a long battle with dementia. Born on June 24, 1945, Edna was daughter to the late Claude and Maude (Jardine) Warren and daughter-in-law to the late Lawrence and Teresa Burke. Edna and Geordie ran the family business Burke’s Trucking Ltd. Geordie handled the work in the woods loading trucks and fixing the equipment and Edna handled all the accounting, parts, and running the household. She also attended trade school in St. Andrews for Stenography. Edna was a woman of faith and a long-standing member of the ACW and volunteered her time as a Brownie Leader for many years. Edna loved country music and dancing ("Low and close to the floor"). She enjoyed clogging, ceramics, sewing, knitting and antique cars, being a member of the Antique Auto Club for a number of years. Edna was nothing, if not a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Above all else, family was most important, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Edna will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, George, their children: Ken (Brenda) Burke, Joe (Lisa) Burke and Sandy (Mark) Moses, her beloved grandchildren: Ethan, Luke and Kenzie Burke, Josh and Zach Burke and Grady Moses, her siblings: Olive (Burpee) Harris, Lera (Wayne) Beers, Lynn Warren, John (Louise) Warren, Bob (Faith) Warren, Gene (Joyce) Warren and Carrie (Roger) Mountain, and many nieces, nephews and members of her extended family. Edna was predeceased by her precious infant granddaughter Sydney, daughter of Joe and Lisa, her siblings: Mary Searles, Lucy Burke, Glenn, Quinton and Keith Warren and brothers-in-law: Herbie and Bob Burke The family wishes to extend a heartfelt "Thank you" to the Extramural Nurses and staff at Kindred Home Care. A special "Thank you" to her brother-in-law Larry Burke and to family friends Larry Goodeill and Jimmy Bent who’s unwavering support and presence will not be forgotten. And to her long time, devoted friend, Barb Rathburn who never left her side. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) where visitation will take place on Thursday, October 25 from 11 am – 2 pm at which time the Funeral Service will begin in the Bay View Chapel. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Diabetic Association.
