Obituary of Sonia Ruth Pye

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Sonia R. Pye announces her unexpected passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, December 14, 2018. Born in Saint John on August 12, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Irene (Buckley) Stevens. Sonia will be missed by her 10 children: Donna O’Donnell (Robert), Donald Robert Pye, Linda Pelletier (George), Sherry (Pye) Dixon, Greg Pye (Vickie), Cindy McGee (Greg), Jackie DeLong (Garf), Kelly (Pye) McQuade, John Pye (Shelly) and Jeff Pye (Julie); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother Greg Stevens (Carol); sister Patsy Bingham; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sonia was predeceased by her loving husband Donald F. Pye; her brothers, Roy, Harold, Teddy and Donnie; and her sisters, Joanie and Carol. A devoted mother and loving wife, Sonia raised her children alongside her husband in Brown’s Flat. Born into an artistic family, Sonia developed a passion for music and drawing at a young age. She also enjoyed cooking (and an amazing cook she was!) for her ever-growing family who will continue to try to perfect her secret recipes. She cherished her friends and family, welcoming all into her country home. The living embodiment of a loving mother, and symbol of home and hearth, Sonia always greeted her family warmly with hugs and bright smiles, and parted ways with goodbye kisses. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Sonia is resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Rd, Saint John, NB (634-7425) with visitation on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from Brenan’s Bay View Chapel at 2:00 pm. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
