Obituary of Ward Frederick Duke

Ward Duke Sr. of Oak Point passed away peacefully at Ridgewood Veterans Wing on October 22, 2012. Born on October 5, 1924 in Chatham, NB he was a son of the late Richard and May (Ward) Duke. In his younger years Ward lived in Logieville and would eventually move to Saint John as a teenager. Ward was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Merchant Navy. Following the war he raised his large family in Saints Rest. He worked at various jobs, such as a lumber and fisherman, Veterinary Assistant and a National Harbour Board Policeman for 30 years. Ward loved fishing, hunting, conversation and telling endless jokes. Ward was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Earle; three sisters, Sarah, Norma and Theresa; two brothers, Jackie and Richard. He is survived by his second wife, Louise (Paquet) of Oak Point and step-son, David Dickson of Chatham; sister, Pat Long of Erbs Cove, NB; ten children, Theresa of Lower Greenwich, NB; Ward Jr. of Public Landing, NB; Earle of Grand Bay, NB; Elaine of Tenants Cove; James of Saint John; Susan of Grand Bay; Mary of Moncton; Jean of Shediac; Sally of Moncton and Donald of Saint John; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Tribute to a Veteran will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 12:00 noon from Brenan’s Bay View Chapel. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Reception to follow the burial at Greenwich Legion Branch 57 from 2-5, (Jones Creek) 50 Olinville Road. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Canadian Cancer Society of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
