Obituary of George Terrence Crich
It is with great sadness and shattered hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved patriarch, Sgt. George (Terry) Terrence Crich, on November 26th, 2023 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 85. Terry passed away peacefully surrounded by all of his loved ones, exactly how he would have wanted.
Terry was born on May. 8th, 1938 to his late parents George and Florence (Celine) Crich at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. He was the most thoughtful, loving and amazing husband to his wife Catherine (Lorraine) Crich. The most incredible, dedicated and caring father to his children, Douglas (Joan) and Lianne (Alfred) Crich. The best Grampy to his grandchildren Josh (Rebecca) Crich, Lindsy Oram, Michael (Rhonda) Creamer and Maggie Creamer and absolutely thrilled to be a great grandfather to his great grandchildren Christopher, Beatrix, Bernadette, Obadiah, Ethan, Lucas, Jazzy, Roxy, and Kessler. We know he would have been so proud to meet, the soon to be newest addition to our family, baby Crich.
As a child Terry blazed his way through school despite being left handed during a time where you could be reprimanded for it. But in the face of this challenge he still paved his way. He grew up with a passion for baking and a deep and unconditional love for animals. His pug, Tyson, was his best friend. He spoiled him just like he spoiled all of us. Fresh out of high school he applied to the RCMP. He was just of age and they gladly accepted. On May. 15th 1956, he began his 25 year career and worked his way up the ranks to become a Sergeant. He retired on September 19th 1980 and moved on to his career at the New Brunswick Liquor Licensing board before finally retiring. He was always so proud of his work as a Sergeant and even though he had dealt with so many difficult situations, he stood strong in the face of it all. When he met Lorraine he knew he had met the love of his life. Soon they were married and created their beautiful family of 4. Dougie was born first and then Lianne and their little family was complete. His children are his proudest achievements before his career. He loved his family with such ferocity and did absolutely anything and everything he could to make sure we were all safe and happy. When his grandchildren were born he grew even more proud of the little family he created. He showed his love to us in many ways and one of those ways were sharing his love for hockey with us all.He started coaching Dougie’s hockey teams when he was a young boy, he moved on to managing teams for Josh during his time playing and when Lindsy started playing he always made sure to make it to every single game she had. He had a huge passion for gardening. Every spring and summer you could find him doing all the lawn work and gardening and he always did an amazing job. Every chance he got he would make sure to shine up and clean his car. He took so much pride in each one he owned. Each trip he planned with Lorraine and other family members was meticulously planned. He took care of everything from planning his route to making the accommodations and everything in between. Everything he did revolved around his family. He was there for everyone struggles to offer advice or just for comfort. Christmas was his absolute favourite holiday. From tree to decorations to cooking dinner he did it all. Any holiday that involved family made him happy. But Christmas was his favourite of them all and every year he always made sure to make all his family members his special Christmas pudding with lemon sauce.
There will never be enough words to sum up the life of such a dutiful, dedicated and loving man. We have suffered a great loss and our hearts and lives will never be the same. We were all so blessed and honoured to have been a part of Terrys life.
Terry is survived by his wife, 2 children, 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and his brother Bill (Karen) Crich. He is predeceased by his parents.
Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home 309, Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3. Keeping with Terry’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in Terry’s memory can be made to Bobby’s Hospice, SPCA, Alzheimer’s Society Canada or a charity of the donor’s choice.
