Obituary of Isadore Jacob Davis

Izzy, I.J. or "Bey", to those who knew Dad from his childhood days, passed away on December 25, 2017 at Parkland Shannex, Saint John, N.B. at the age of 96. A life-long proud resident of Saint John, he was the youngest son of Harry and Ida Davis, hardworking immigrants. Dad was predeceased by his parents, sister Rose, and brothers Abraham, Sam, and Eli and by his devoted wife Ruth Davis (Gauvin), in 2002 after 56 years of marriage. Dad’s unwavering love and devotion for Mom was evident each and every day. Dad is survived by his loving family, Richard (Toronto), Glenn (Vancouver), Sally (Vancouver), Fred (Toronto) and Dan (Halifax) who kept in touch with Dad by phone everyday when not in Saint John. Dad also leaves nine beautiful grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Dad was so proud of each and every one of us and it showed. Dad attended public school in Saint John, graduating from Saint John High School in 1940. Dad volunteered for the Armed Forces during WWII and later continued to support those who served at the Jewish War Veterans, Atlantic Division, working alongside his dear friend, Garfield Meltzer. A successful business man, Dad rose to film distribution manager for the Atlantic Region with United Artists (MGM/UA). At the same time Dad was part owner and operator of Saint John’s first drive in restaurant, Dog ’N Suds and later owned the Family Drycleaners located in the Lancaster Mall. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Bayview Funeral Home, 1461Manowagonish Road, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A funeral service will be held in the Brenan’s Bayview Chapel on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 2:30 PM. Interment to follow in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Shiva will continue in Saint John at 6 pm Thursday to Sunday at Shaarei Zedek synagogue. Shiva will continue in Toronto on January 2, 2018 at 44 Heddington Ave. Visitation in Toronto is Tuesday 2pm-5pm and Service will begin at 730pm.
